Guidance on ISBN, legal deposit and copyright

ISBN
Unless your book is for private or restricted circulation - a family history, for instance - every title published should have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) in order to facilitate order processing, distribution and referencing. ISBNs are issued to the publishing company or self-publisher by the UK ISBN Agency. For further information about obtaining an ISBN.

Legal deposit
Publishing companies and self-publishers are legally required to send to the Legal Deposit Office one copy of each title, within one month of first publication. The Legal Deposit Office is situated at The British Library office in Wetherby, West Yorkshire. For further information, click here on LEGAL DEPOSIT OFFICE

Copyright
Authors of books do not need to apply for copyright in their work. It is an automatic right that exists as soon as the work is fixed, for example by words printed on paper. In order to signal that your work is copyright protected it is sensible to mark it with a copyright symbol (©) followed by your name and the year the work was created. For further information, click here on COPYRIGHT.

How to prepare your materials

In order to obtain the most professional-looking results, we always prefer to work with materials prepared in PDF format (Portable Document Format). If you are preparing your own PDFs, please refer to our guidelines on best-practice preparation of your files by clicking here on SELF PUBLISHING GUIDE
If you are unable to provide us with PDFs, we offer a professional typesetting service at a reasonable cost and are happy to discuss options with you. We can also put you in touch with a number of different designers if you require help with lay-outs or cover design.

It’s easy to work out what it will cost to produce your book

We offer two manufacturing options – short-run digital printing at CPI Antony Rowe Eastbourne, and medium-run litho printing at CPI Antony Rowe Chippenham.

Short-run digital production
If you wish to produce fewer than 100-200 copies of your book, digital printing is the most economical option. It’s easy to work out the cost of production by clicking here on our DIGITAL COST CALCULATOR

Medium-run litho production
If you wish to produce more than 200 copies of your book, litho printing is usually the most economical option. For more information contact directly GEOFF FISHER, or call on 07767 675262.

Helping you to market and sell your book

We are as keen as you are to ensure that your book is marketed effectively and that the sales potential is fully realised. To help achieve this goal we offer a number of support services.

BookDelivery.com
BOOKDELIVERY.COM is a service that integrates our production and fulfilment services with an e-commerce site, providing self-publishers with the immediate ability to market and sell their book over the internet. We create a page for you on the site and provide a unique, publisher’s URL so that you can use this in printed promotional or publicity material, e-mails or embedded within your own website if you have one. Unlike the major e-tailer sites, BookDelivery.com is a service; consequently you control the selling price and retain a very high percentage of the revenue from sales.
